The Mayfair Poet

Meet Ruth Elora - The Mayfair Poet

The Mayfair Poet — also known as Ruth Elora — is an award-winning British-Nigerian poet, speaker and creative facilitator based in London.

A multi-disciplinary creative, her work spans spoken word, performance and storytelling, with features across national press, magazines and radio. From intimate love letters to powerful social critique, her poetry invites audiences into a space of reflection, honesty and inner reckoning.

Ruth has performed at leading cultural venues including the Southbank Centre and Omnibus Theatre, as well as internationally across Europe and the United States. Her work explores identity, resilience, spirituality and social change, connecting deeply with audiences across diverse spaces.

She is the co-founder and host of If Poets Ruled the World — a fast-growing poetry night and platform spotlighting emerging and established voices. She also co-hosts the If Poets Ruled the World podcast and a radio show on Voices Radio, where poetry, culture and conversation intersect.

Alongside her creative work, Ruth has a professional background in communications, including working at BAFTA and within a PR agency supporting global brands such as Google and Bumble. She currently works within higher education at Bayes Business School, where she engages with storytelling, audience engagement and strategic communication.

This dual perspective allows Ruth to bridge the worlds of creativity and business, delivering workshops and talks for universities, organisations and cultural institutions on storytelling, communication and the power of language.

At her core, Ruth sees poetry as more than performance — but as a tool for connection, a catalyst for change, and a way to give voice to what is often left unsaid.

This is the poetry revolution.
